Weak working memory

A thought you don't write down vanishes — and the brain 'guards' it at the cost of attention, driving interrupting and distraction.

Background

Weaker working memory is one of ADHD’s core mechanisms. Fear of forgetting a thought makes you cut people off or lose focus in conversation. An uncaptured ‘I’ll do it later’ circles in your head and eats attention. That’s why external-capture systems (a card, a notebook, a single inbox) work better for ADHD than ‘I’ll remember’.
