Late-night burst of energy / ideas
You're exhausted, but at 1am an exciting idea and a jolt of energy hit — and sleep is gone.

Background
Very ADHD: in the evening arousal and alertness can climb right when you ‘should’ be sleeping — less a sudden dopamine ‘injection’ than a circadian rhythm shifted late (delayed melatonin) plus a brain seeking stimulation. A sudden idea, a new project, excitement — and the body gets energy instead of sleepiness. It isn’t a lack of discipline, it’s how the reward and arousal system works in ADHD. The key: don’t fight the thought head-on — have a ‘dump’ ritual ready (write the idea down, return in the morning) plus a fast body wind-down (physiological sigh) so the burst doesn’t run the whole night.
Methods for this mechanism
-
Transition ritual into wind-down
An activity calibrated to be interesting but not gripping stops wind-down from turning into a late-night surge.

An evening carb (instead of going to bed hungry)
A small carb portion in the evening raises serotonin, which converts to melatonin — the opposite of the 'no carbs at night' myth.
